Communiqué: Wanafrika in the United Nations

The Pan-African Center Kituo cha Wanafrika is, since the 1st of August 2013, a member in Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. This Status is attained by organizations that can demonstrate a constant commitment towards the realisation of specific objectives coincidental of those of the United Nations. Specifically Wanafrika is devoted, among other objectives, to:
  • Protect the African culture and the African languages.
  • Promote an African-Centered education of high quality.
  • Defend Africans everywhere from racism and xenophobia.
  • Defend migrants and workers from all kinds of abuses.
  • Help the children, youths, aged and handicapped ones.
  • Protect the rights of the African women worldwide. 

The attained Status will allow Wanafrika to participate in high level meetings of the United Nations and to actively engage with the ECOSOC and the United Nations Secretariat, programmes, funds and agencies in various ways, with international relevance.

Antumi Toasije, President of the Pan-African Center Kituo cha Wanafrika congratulated all the members of Wanafrika, in a written letter, for this achievement, saying that "we must be conscious that this will be a crucial possitive turning point in the impact of our work".
