The Institute wishes to recruit qualified and dedicated individuals to fill the following vacant positions in 2012:

CENTER FOR GENDER, CULTURE AND DEVELOPMENT

Professor/ Associate Professor in Gender and Development (1 post)
The position is open to interested qualified and experienced academics to provide academic leadership in gender and development. Candidates for the above post should have the following qualifications:
·        For Professor, PhD with specialization in gender and development, 3 years teaching experience since being appointed Associate Professor and a minimum of 5 refereed publications;
·        For Associate Professor, PhD with specialization in gender and development, 3 years of experience since being appointed Senior Lecturer and a minimum of 5 publications.

The post goes with the activities and responsibilities requiring experience in teaching modules in gender and development, supervising dissertations at Masters and PhD level, carrying out research in gender and development fields and mentoring junior staff members. In addition, candidates must demonstrate the ability, skills and competencies in gender and development issues and research in related fields in East Africa and beyond, have excellent communication skills in English and be computer literate.

Senior Lecturer in Gender and Development (2 posts)
The position is open to interested qualified and experienced academics to provide academic leadership in gender and development. Candidates to the above post should be holders of a PhD Degree with specialization in gender and development. They must have at least 3 years of teaching experience as lecturers in institutions of Higher Learning plus 3 publications in refereed journals. The post goes with the activities and responsibilities requiring experience in teaching modules in gender and development, supervising dissertations at Masters Level, carrying out research in gender and development fields and mentoring junior staff members. In addition, candidates must demonstrate the ability, skills and competencies in gender and development issues and research in related fields in East Africa and beyond, have excellent communication skills in English and be computer literate.

Lecturer (1 post)
The position is open for interested qualified and experienced academics to provide academic leadership in gender and development. Candidates to the above post should be holders of a PhD or Masters Degree in gender and/or development, with at least 3 years of teaching experience and one publication. The post goes with the activities and responsibilities requiring experience in teaching modules in gender and development. Supervision of dissertations at Masters Level would be an added advantage. In addition, candidates must demonstrate the ability, skills and competencies in gender and development issues in related fields in East Africa and beyond, have excellent communication skills in English and be computer literate.

Appointment Procedure.
To qualify for these positions, an applicant must already be holding a position at the level advertised at their current workplace. If this is not the case, the successful applicant will be appointed at their current level and will be required to apply for promotion after arrival at KIE.
